Features explained
Auto-dimming mirrors (also called “electrochromic”) are a nice feature to have until something goes wrong and they need to be replaced.
The cost for replacement can be several hundred dollars!
A few things that may be confusing to people:
- Auto-dimming is strictly a convenience feature and not required by any other system in the car
- When auto-dimming mirrors fail they become dark and blurry which at that point makes them very hard to use
- Failed or not connected auto-dimming does not cause any warning lights on the dashboard
